CMS Temporarily Pauses Nursing Home Quality Rating Updates – What This Means for You

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced a major update to the way nursing home quality data is collected and shared. CMS has transitioned to a new cloud-based Internet Quality Improvement and Evaluation System (iQIES), which is designed to strengthen the accuracy and efficiency of reporting on nursing home surveys and certification data.

As part of this transition, updates to the Nursing Home Care Compare website have been temporarily paused as of July 30, 2025. CMS expects updates to resume in October 2025, once the new system is fully validated. This short pause will allow CMS to ensure that the information being reported to the public is accurate, reliable, and reflective of the care being delivered nationwide.

What This Means for Families and the Community
