Transitions Healthcare Allens Cove Staff Complete Advanced LVAD Training through Hershey Medical Center

At Transitions Healthcare Allens Cove, our commitment to clinical excellence and resident safety is more than just a promise, it’s a daily practice. That’s why we’re proud to share that members of our skilled nursing team recently completed advanced training in Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) care through the prestigious Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
LVADs are life-sustaining mechanical pumps used in patients with advanced heart failure. As these patients transition from hospitals to post-acute care, it is essential for skilled nursing facility staff to be fully prepared to meet their unique needs. The LVAD Basics: LVAD Care in Community-Based Medical Settings training provided our team with hands-on experience and critical knowledge in managing these complex devices.
The training included:
- Hands-on practice with LVAD controller and power source exchanges
- Driveline dressing changes and infection prevention techniques
- Recognition and response to LVAD alarms and emergencies
- Clinical insights into LVAD hemodynamics and patient safety
By completing this specialized program, our nurses and clinical staff are better equipped to deliver high-quality care to residents living with LVADs, supporting smoother transitions from hospital to skilled care and helping to reduce rehospitalizations.
“Having our staff participate in this training reflects our dedication to clinical excellence and staying at the forefront of post-acute care,” said Director of Nursing, Evan Keogh. “Our team is prepared to support even the most complex residents with the compassion and expertise that define Transitions Healthcare.”
As heart failure patients increasingly rely on advanced technologies, Transitions Healthcare Allens Cove is proud to be a regional leader in post-hospital cardiac care. Our team’s proactive participation in LVAD education is one more way we ensure our residents receive the best care possible today, and every day.
