Transitions Healthcare Gettysburg is proud to announce the first graduating class from its Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program. The program is a collaborative partnership with Harrisburg Area Community College where undergraduate students will participate in on-site, paid training at the skilled nursing facility’s classroom. The program consists of approximately 120 hours of hands-on, specialized education. Students are provided with both classroom instruction and clinical training including blood pressure readings, measuring vital signs, and activities of daily living (ADL) as well as performing procedures on a patient simulator like lifting, bathing, and dressing exercises. During that time, students also gain valuable nursing floor experience with residents under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

Jodi Lyons, Administrator of Transitions Healthcare Gettysburg remarked, “There were some great memories made with this first cohort for our new CNA program. My hope is that this training not only provides a stable and rewarding career path for young men and women, but also sparks a passion for helping others when they realize the benefits of a career in care”.

Once students have completed the training program with Transitions Healthcare Gettysburg, they’re prepared to enroll in the Pennsylvania Department of Health Nurse Aide examination for licensure. The testing needs to be completed within 120 days of commencement, yet during that time, students are eligible to work as a non-certified nursing assistant as they perfect their nursing skills.
